PHILADELPHIA—New Jersey Rep. Carol Murphy together with her husband, Michael Muller, attended the Shen Yun Performing Arts performance, at the Merriam Theater in Philadelphia, without any expectations.
“I did not know what to expect. And I have to tell you that this is the best show that I have seen,” she said.
New York-based Shen Yun‘s mission is to revive the 5,000 years of divinely imparted Chinese culture—a culture from before the communist era.
The way that the story’s being told, it’s exceptional.
Assemblywoman Murphy was full of praise for the mission, saying, “I am very inspired by just being able to be here and just knowing what’s going on. The way that the story’s being told, it’s exceptional.
“You need to show people what China is really about, and bring back the peace and everything of that nature that this [performance] brings, and this is inspiring.”
Despite Shen Yun’s performances being seen around the world, the company is not allowed to perform in China. The traditional culture that Shen Yun showcases has long been under siege by the communist regime.
The Assemblywoman expressed her dismay at this situation, adding, “but—we welcome it, and we’re encouraged by [the] story.”
Shen Yun portrays these stories through classical Chinese dance, accompanied by a live symphony orchestra comprised of Eastern and Western instruments.
I applaud you for bringing your story. I applaud all of you for the dancing and the arts that this brings, and the culture that we experience, and I couldn’t be prouder to be here tonight with all of you.
Speaking to the performers, she said: “I applaud you for bringing your story. I applaud all of you for the dancing and the arts that this brings, and the culture that we experience, and I couldn’t be prouder to be here tonight with all of you.”
After experiencing Shen Yun, Ms. Murphy presented the company’s presenter with the New Jersey Senate and House of Representatives resolution in praise of Shen Yun Performing Arts.
The resolution was jointly issued by New Jersey Senate Chairman Nicholas Scutari, House Speaker Craig J. Coughlin, and all members of the Legislature in praise of the extraordinary contributions made by Shen Yun Performing Arts.
Ms. Murphy declared herself as a supporter and a promoter in Philadelphia of Shen Yun now that she has seen the show: “I have some of my staff who want to come back and I told them that I would get them tickets, and I’m even going to make sure they get here before [Shen Yun] leaves.”
Pennsylvania House of Representatives Commendation
A letter of commendation was initiated by the Honorable MaryLouise Isaacson and forwarded to the Greater Philadelphia Falun Dafa Society. It announced that this was the 15th year that Shen Yun performed in Philadelphia, where audiences have been able to appreciate the exquisite artistic and cultural heritage that Shen Yun has brought to the world.
