University Dean Moved by the Depth of Shen Yun

GUADALAJARA, Mexico—It isn’t often that we come across a performance that makes us wonder about our role in this world. For Dr. Ricardo Villanueva Lomeli, dean of the University of Guadalajara, experiencing Shen Yun Performing Arts did just that for him.

“I think that in each passage you discover things, all the messages they give us. That relationship of men with the Gods, of what we do here on Earth, we see other worldviews,” Dr. Villanueva Lomeli said.

“I believe that one is confronted with other philosophies of life, other worldviews, other ways of understanding,” he said.

Shen Yun is based in New York and with the mission to revive China’s 5,000 years of civilization it puts on an all-new production every year.

“This is the second time I have seen the show. Totally different. They are rescuing a lost art, thousands of years of tradition. It is really spectacular, the colors, the harmony, and all the messages they transmit in each passage. I am really very, very happy,” he said.

“I think it’s really great to see it again and I was surprised to see a completely different show. I didn’t expect so much difference,” he added.

The pandemic had put a halt to the performing arts as well as the gathering of friends and family. Dr. Villanueva Lomeli expressed that “definitely after a pandemic I think we all need to reunite and that is why it is very important to see each other again in these places where we can share art and [art can] unite us again.”

Although Shen Yun tours around the world each season, sharing the beauty of Chinese culture, they are not able to perform in China.

“It is good that Shen Yun can perform with complete freedom in different parts of the world. It is wonderful that there are seven simultaneous companies, and that there is freedom for this to be presented here in Guadalajara,” said Dr. Villanueva Lomeli.

He shared his appreciation for what Shen Yun’s dancers could do.

“Wonderful. It is spectacular. The colors are impressive, the dance is fabulous, the movements they can do with their bodies are extraordinary. I would define it as marvelous,” he complimented.
